GLOSSARY OF INTERNET WORDS

HTML - or "Hypertext transfer protocol" forms the backbone of the internet. It is the programming language that web sites use to communicate with eachother.

"Java" or "Java script" - is a cool new addition to plain ol' HTML that lets you SPICE THINGS UP with cool animations and effects!

Flash (also called "Shockwave")

CSS - CSS stands for "Content Scrambling System" and is used on DVDs to protect its content from piracy! Also it is used on webpages for something else.

AOL - "America Online" is the most popular internet subscription service in the world. In fact you might even be using right now! Don't be fooled by the name though - you can get it outside of America too!

SPAM - "SPAM" is unwanted email. It is named SPAM because no one likes SPAM. (LOL!)

LOL - You might have noticed I used this one right up above! "LOL" stands for "Laugh Out Loud' and is used to tell people that you just said something funny.

The internet was created in 1958 by DARPA, part of the department of defense, based on fears of soviet attack after the launch of sputnik! Thanks guys, without you, I couldn't send grandma this picture of a cute kitten, LOL!
